Ultimate Factories: BMW X3 in Spartanburg, South Carolina

BMW announced recently that the National Geographic Channel (NGC) will air an hour-long documentary on the making of the BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle as part of the popular Ultimate Factories series.

The episode premiered yesterday 11/1/2011 but will be replayed again and available online. This will be the second time NGC has featured a BMW built exclusively in South Carolina. In 2007, BMW’s Z4 Roadster, also built at the South Carolina factory until 2008, was featured on Ultimate Factories

NGC spent almost two weeks at the BMW factory in early June producing and filming the new program. “Once again, BMW was very pleased to welcome the National Geographic Channel into our plant. We are proud to show people all over the world the quality and craftsmanship of BMW X3, X5 and X6, built exclusively for over 130 markets around the globe," said Josef Kerscher, President, BMW Manufacturing.

Currently, the new BMW X3, which began production in South Carolina in September 2010 and went on sale in the U.S. in early 2011, has become a bestseller for the company ― with nearly 80,000 vehicles sold globally in 2011.

Save the beach. Buy a Plate.

The WHALE TAIL License Plate sponsored by the California Coastal Commission gives drivers a way to help protect and restore the priceless resources of California's coast and ocean. Proceeds from the plate support the annual Coastal Cleanup Day which each fall turns out thousands of volunteers to clean our beaches and waterways. The plate also supports the year 'round Adopt-A-Beach program, the WHALE TAIL Grants program (which supports marine education at the local level), our free resources for educators and the Coastal Conservancy's beach access and habitat restoration programs.

A portion of the first year's fee goes to the DMV for administrative fees (about $15); the remainder of the first year fee and 100% of the renewal fees go to support coastal environmental education, beach cleanups, restoration projects, and other projects to preserve and enhance environmental resources. The renewal fee is $40 annually for the sequential license plates, and $78 annually for the personalized plates.

More info is available in the East Bay BMW customer lounge. What would you put as your custom plate?
